Let’s Talk About The Best Rose Essential Oil
Wellness is the entire integration of body, mind, and spirit, the knowledge that everything we do, think, feel, and believe affects our overall well-being.
Bulgaria has such a long tradition of manufacturing magnificent Damask rose oil and the crown gem of Bulgarian essential oils, As the sun rises over the dew-covered meadows near Kazanlak, Bulgaria, rows upon rows of flowering rose bushes are seen.
Harvesters meticulously select the flowers between each row to get the potent fragrance from it.
There are over 100 different types of roses, but the Damask Rose, or Rosa Damascena, is produced and distilled in Bulgaria for dōTERRA Rose essential oil. The Damask rose was brought to Bulgaria in the seventeenth century and is usually considered as generating the best rose oil.
The Rose Festival In Bulgaria
Nothing reflects the region’s profound affection for roses more than the yearly Rose Festival. The event, which has been going on since 1903, starts on the first Sunday in June. More than 150,000 tourists come to learn about the valley’s rich history and customs and participate in the crucial rose harvest.
The Rose Coronation and Rose Festival Parade are two of the festival’s most thrilling activities. Each year, a Rose Queen from the town is elected to preside over many of the activities.
The procession in Kazanlak marks the finale of the full rose harvest season. With 3,000 participants, the procession is Bulgaria’s biggest and involves traditional dance, music, and arts. Rose swaths and garlands blanket the town, and small children distribute flowers to the throng while traditional dress performers dance and sing.
When the last of the procession goes by and the revelers return home, the streets will be covered with rose petals and flowers.
Why Plant Damask Rose In Bulgaria?
Gentle winds carry wet air inland to the north as moisture evaporates from the Black Sea. The wet air is propelled upward as it hits the mountains around the Valley of the Roses. Water vapor cools and condenses as it rises, generating clouds. The clouds get bigger as they are confined by the mountain peaks, and it ultimately starts to rain.
Mild winters, sandy soil, and large spring rains combine to make this valley one of the greatest areas on the globe for rose cultivation. It’s no surprise, therefore, that the rose is Bulgaria’s national flower. This is also why dōTERRA picked the Valley of the Roses to source its Rose essential oil.
Harvesting Damask Rose
The Valley of the Roses in central Bulgaria is situated immediately south of the Balkan Mountains, near the Black Sea.
The valley has a sunny environment combined with well-drained, sandy soil, which combines to offer perfect circumstances for producing roses. Furthermore, roses need a lot of rain. Thanks to the vast Balkan mountain range, the nature of the region once again gives precisely the proper circumstances.
For weeks beginning in early May, the rose harvest dominates the social and economic panorama of the Valley of the Roses. Family and friends gather to assist the rose growers to bring in their yearly crop.
Best Time Harvesting Rosa Damascena
The finest time to harvest is just as their petals begin to open. Harvesters begin early in the morning and labor through the morning to gather the fragile blooms, taking care not to crush any in the process.
The availability of oil is greatest in the early morning hours, diminishing as the Sun rises. Because rose petals are so fragile, they must be steam distilled on the same day they are picked. If you wait too long, the important essential oil will be lost.
When Is The Next Harvest?
When the sun sets over the rose fields in June, its final rays highlight miles and miles of neat rose bushes. All the blooms on the bushes have been distilled into pure rose oil, so the shrubs are now naked.
Farmers, harvesters, and distillers in the Valley of the Roses collaborated to produce around two metric tons of pure Rose oil in only a few weeks.
Soon, it will be time to trim the rose bushes and begin nurturing another crop of the world’s highest-quality roses. It has been this way for 340 years, and if the inhabitants of the valley have anything to say about it, it will continue to be thus for generations to come.
Rosa Damascena Flower Oil
She is renowned as the “Queen of Oils,” and she reigns dominant in the fields of aromatherapy, skincare, and emotional support. Rose essential oil is one of the most sought after in the world owing to its exquisite perfume, gentle character, and apparent associations with love and passion.
Rose oil is made from the Damask rose, a plant native to Damascus, Syria’s capital. Delicate petals, tens of thousands, which are from Rosa Damascena plants are distilled to generate the valuable Rose essential oil. This time-consuming procedure is certainly a labor of love—a quest to introduce the queen of oils to the rest of the world.
