Acupressure or pressure point massage clears meridians by applying mild but strong pressure to particular places along the energy lines known as acupoints. Endorphins, molecules that mute pain signals and encourage pleasant emotions, are released by the brain in reaction to pressure. Muscles relax and blood flows more easily when there is no pain. The body achieves equilibrium when stress dissipates.
Acupressure is not just a treatment; it is also a preventative strategy. Pressure administered strategically allows the body to withstand stresses and disease.
Acupoints
Acupoints are any specific points for needle insertion in acupressure. Acupuncture points per se have different physical effects according to location. Each acupoint possess a different sensation based on the body part which suffers from the pain or a specific problem. Local Points (LP), Distal Points (DP) and Tender points (TP) are the three types of acupsoints present on nociceptors and polymodal receptors. Activation of such receptors result in better effects on pain relief.
1. Headache, Muscles, And Bowel Movement Acupressure Point
Adjoining Valley (Li 4): Place your left hand palm down, thumb and fingers gently squeezed together. A fleshy lump develops in the webbing between the index finger and thumb. Examine this area, relax your left hand, and push on this place with your right hand (thumb above, index finger below).
2. Stimulating The Kidney Meridian Using Acupressure Points
Associated Kidney Point (B 23): This pair of points is located on each side of the lower back, slightly above the upper rim of the sacrum. Lying on the floor with a tennis ball beneath you is the ideal method to apply strong pressure to these spots. Ideally, you should lay on two tennis balls inside a sock to stimulate both spots at the same time (see number 10 in illustration above). Place the pressure an inch and a half apart on either side of the spine.
3. Acupressure Points For Kidney Health
Supreme Stream (Kd 3): Locate this location by placing your right thumb on the inside of the prominent bone in your left ankle. Next, move your thumb toward the Achilles tendon. The point is located in the hollow between the bone and the tendon.
4. Menstrual Cramps Acupressure Points
Three Yin Meeting (Sp 6): At this location on the inside of the leg above the anklebone, the three meridians of the leg cross. To locate it, insert your thumb into the middle of your anklebone and move four finger widths up your inner leg. The point is located at the rear of the leg, just off the shinbone (tibia).
5. Acupressure Points To Relieve Stress
Bigger Rushing (Lv 3): This point is located on the top of the foot and is easy to locate. Insert the tip of your index finger into the webbing between your big and second toes. Slide your finger up about a half-inch on your foot until you feel an indentation.
