Is It Your First Time Doing Acupuncture?
Visiting an Acupuncturist for the first time may be daunting, but anybody who visits an Acupuncturist regularly will tell you that it is anything but. We invited Renee Pilgrim of Transformaven Acupuncture in Newfoundland to take us through our first needle insertion experience.
When I initially see a patient, we usually start with a discussion of their health history and treatment objectives, such as fertility, digestive problems, back pain, anxiety, and so on. The causes are always diverse and many. We always go through their Acupuncture experience and any preconceived notions. The majority of my new patients have never visited an acupuncturist before. Some people are afraid of needles. Everyone is intrigued.
We go at our own pace. We stop after the first point is put (the needle is entered). The second point is then introduced, and by the third point, they typically say something.
I pay attention. I’m not sure what they’ll say. I’m waiting for whatever they say because it’s the start of something big. There are numerous commonalities in how each individual will experience: What people feel while getting Acupuncture is lovely.
I PAY ATTENTION TO THE QI
After the first stage, some individuals feel very little. People’s reactions vary depending on where the needles are inserted. However, needle placement is not something they usually remark on.
“It’s like I feel warm all over,” or “I can feel this current flowing through me” are common initial remarks. Other everyday observations include, “I don’t know what it is, but it seems like something is moving” and “wow, I just felt my whole body relax.” I once heard, “it’s as though I just felt the sunbeam all over me.”
We can explain perceptions and emotions using biology and neuroscience. Inserting a needle increases blood flow, producing a mini-injury that sends information to the brain through neurotransmitters, resulting in a response system. This is the Qi that you have.
Healing At The Very First Moment
I like discovering new ways to talk about the delicate nature of our bodies. We cannot see what we cannot perceive. Many topics are challenging to describe. Some sensations cannot be understood or known until they are felt via the body. This physical moment calls out a profound sense of understanding inside us.
The beginning of your recovery is made up of this unique and empowering experience. Follow along, look for the words, and trust your instincts and knowledge. A heightened understanding and articulation of self is an essential asset for your ongoing health and well-being.
